Poland deploys 10,000 soldiers to protect critical infrastructure
Following a recent incident on the Polish-Ukrainian border, the Polish authorities plan to deploy 10,000 soldiers as part of Operation Horyzont to strengthen the protection of the country’s critical infrastructure.
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz reported that Operation Horyzont will include cooperation with subordinate services of the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs. Operational forces, territorial defense, military equipment, and artificial intelligence-based means will be actively engaged to enhance the security of objects that may become targets of potential attacks. “We will protect our family even better,” emphasized the minister.
The initiative is unfolding against the backdrop of a recent sabotage that occurred on November 16, when a railway line leading to the Ukrainian border was damaged. Prime Minister Donald Tusk described this incident as an act of sabotage. Authorities suspect two Ukrainian citizens, who arrived in Poland in the fall from Belarus and fled after the attack, to be responsible for the sabotage. The suspects might have used mobile phones to remotely detonate the railway, and law enforcement has already seized SIM cards.
