OpenAI is ready to present its first physical device by the end of the year
At the World Economic Forum in Davos, OpenAI announced the final development phase of its first physical gadget, which is planned to be presented by the end of this year.
The company OpenAI, known for its developments in the field of artificial intelligence, is working on creating a new physical device under the codename Sweetpea as part of a project called Gumdrop. The first product is expected to be an audio device in the form factor of open headphones with an egg-shaped charging case.
OpenAI is actively withholding details about its new project, but it is known that the device will be equipped with a powerful 2-nanometer smartphone-level chip. The production and assembly of the gadget will be carried out in collaboration with the technology company Foxconn. The company’s management emphasizes that the manufacture of such a gadget is part of a global plan to create products that become a natural extension of the user.
Analysts believe that the presentation of this gadget could be an important step for OpenAI in the consumer electronics market. It could also impact the company’s strategic plans, as the roadmap to 2028 includes several other products, including a smart home device and an innovative pen.
It is expected that OpenAI will make an official announcement in the fall of 2026, which coincides with market forecasts for a September release. This will be part of a larger strategy to enter the market with various gadgets, potentially creating competition for other major technology companies.
