OpenAI is preparing to release an innovative screenless AI assistant
OpenAI is working on creating its first consumer device—a mobile “smart” speaker that will become a next-generation home AI computer. The device is expected to hit the market by 2027.
The device, developed based on ChatGPT, will function as a personal assistant capable of managing “smart” home devices, answering questions, and performing a range of other tasks. A distinctive feature of the innovation is the absence of a screen; instead, it will be equipped with a camera, sensors, and a battery to ensure mobility around the home.
The development includes creating a proprietary audio interface that allows the device to automatically learn the habits of its owner, offering necessary information. Moreover, the speaker will support more natural interaction thanks to the GPT-Live voice system, providing smooth two-way dialogue.
The design of the new product is being handled by the io Products team, founded by former Apple chief designer Jony Ive. Engineers with prior experience at Apple are also involved in the project.
The development process might be delayed due to Apple’s lawsuit against OpenAI. Specifically, Apple accuses OpenAI of using trade secrets. OpenAI assures that these allegations are unfounded and supports fair competition.
