OpenAI is considering a lawsuit against Apple due to dissatisfaction with the cooperation. The relationship between the companies, which began in 2024, has significantly deteriorated.
According to Bloomberg, OpenAI expresses dissatisfaction with the limited use of the ChatGPT technology in Apple products. The company expected that the integration of ChatGPT would attract more users and subscriptions, but the reality turned out to be different. OpenAI points to insufficient integration of its product into Apple’s ecosystem. For example, users often need to explicitly mention the word “ChatGPT” to get responses in Siri, yet the results are still very limited.
OpenAI also believes that Apple is not actively promoting their technologies and does not provide them with a proper place in its ecosystem. This situation, according to OpenAI, may negatively affect the ChatGPT brand. Moreover, there are concerns that weak implementation by Apple may cause financial losses, as high commercial expectations were placed on the partnership.
In response, Apple expresses concerns about privacy and data security issues in OpenAI’s products. The situation is complicated by the fact that OpenAI is actively developing its own hardware products with the involvement of former Apple top managers, which Cupertino perceives as potential competition.
At the moment, OpenAI has not made a final decision regarding litigation, but possible legal actions might be delayed until the completion of a separate legal process with Elon Musk. Meanwhile, Apple plans to open its platform to other AI developers, such as Anthropic and Google, which may reduce ChatGPT’s uniqueness on iOS.
