The President of Poland opposed the new law on assistance for Ukrainians
The President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, expressed dissatisfaction with the current state policy towards Ukrainian refugees. He stated that he would not sign the new law, which envisages additional aid for Ukrainians, without the development of fair solutions.
Karol Nawrocki emphasized that the last law he signed initially included provisions for payments under the “800+” program for Ukrainians who are not working in Poland. The president called this “unfair” to Polish citizens and agreed to sign only a revised version that, in his view, considered his comments. However, he noted that this was the last such decision on his part.
The “800+” program provides monthly payments of 800 zlotys (about 9000 UAH) for children up to 18 years old, as well as older ones if they are still studying. According to Nawrocki, the state should find solutions that protect the welfare of Poles and ensure the stay of Ukrainians in the country, but on equal terms with other national minorities.
The president emphasized: “I signed the law for the second time because I do not want to be a president of chaos,” and appealed to Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the parliamentary majority to consider his instructions in future decisions. He warned that the absence of reasonable policies could lead to “chaos in March next year.”
The current law provides for the extension of temporary protection for Ukrainians until March 4, 2026. However, according to Nawrocki, he will no longer agree to laws that, in his opinion, give Ukrainians a privileged position compared to Poles.
| Country | Program | Payments |
