In Ukraine, the first open dataset for recognizing handwritten text, RUKOPYS, was presented.
The Ministry of Economic Development announced the launch of the RUKOPYS project, which will form the basis for creating artificial intelligence to recognize handwritten Ukrainian texts in public services.
During the Handwritten to Data hackathon, the first open annotated dataset for recognizing handwritten text, RUKOPYS, was presented in Ukraine. It was developed in collaboration with government institutions and universities to facilitate work with documents in state services such as “ePermit,” where paper documents are still used.
Deputy Minister of Economy Oleksandr Tsyrbot noted on Facebook that government offices continue to actively work with handwritten documents. The hackathon aims at developing tools for the automatic recognition and processing of such documents, including applications, certificates, and journals. This solution is ready for implementation and is not an experiment.
The organizers of the hackathon provide participants with access to real data to work on applied tasks for the public sector. The application of RUKOPYS along with applied AI solutions will be a step towards the complete digitization of data handling in government institutions.
Recently, the Ministry of Digital Transformation presented new updates in digital services, including an AI bot in the “Diia” application.
