Former Guard of Russian Torture Facility Detained in Kherson

In Kherson, a local resident suspected of collaborating with Russian occupiers has been detained. The man, accused by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) of collaboration, worked as a guard in a seized pre-trial detention center during the city’s occupation.

The Security Service of Ukraine reported the detention of a man who voluntarily joined the so-called penal execution administration, organized by Russians in the city’s former pre-trial detention center during Kherson’s occupation. He was appointed as a “junior inspector,” equipped with Russian-style weapons and official uniform. According to the investigation, he guarded the cells where the occupiers imprisoned resistance movement members.

After Kherson’s liberation from Russian forces, the detainee attempted to evade responsibility by hiding in his own home. However, SBU officers tracked his whereabouts and detained him. The man has been charged with collaborationism, facing up to 15 years in prison with property confiscation. He is currently held in custody.

This is not the first instance of such detentions in Ukraine. For instance, on June 24, three guards of a Russian prison in the Kharkiv region were charged with forcing prisoners to work for the occupiers. In early October, two occupiers were also charged with torturing a woman in a detention facility in Donetsk.
