Since May 2019, Mobile Number Portability has been in effect in Ukraine, allowing users to change their mobile operator without losing their number. The service is becoming increasingly popular, as evidenced by the data for 2024.
Ukrainians can use number portability to change their mobile operator without altering their contact details. To do this, they can apply online using electronic identification or visit an operator’s branded store. The switching procedure takes approximately 2-3 hours, and the transfer date can be selected within 30 days.
In 2024, the service was used by over 340,000 subscribers. Lifecell was the leader in terms of new clients, attracting 270,000 users. Meanwhile, “Kyivstar” lost 207,101 clients, and the most transfers were made by Vodafone Ukraine subscribers — 109,536 times.
Experts note that such market activity indicates growing competition among operators, who are trying to attract new subscribers through various services and tariff plans. This, in turn, provides more choice for end consumers.
