Firefly Aerospace Acquires SciTec for $855 Million to Strengthen Its Position in the Space Industry
American space company Firefly Aerospace has announced its acquisition of national security firm SciTec for $855 million. This deal is aimed at bolstering Firefly’s position in the military and civil space program markets.
Firefly Aerospace, which went public on the Nasdaq a few months ago, plans to complete the deal by the end of the year. The acquisition will be financed through a combination of $300 million in cash and $555 million in company stock. SciTec specializes in missile warning technologies, tracking, defense systems, intelligence, and surveillance, and will operate as a Firefly division under the leadership of current CEO Jim Lisowski upon completion of the deal.
Investors are increasingly interested in space and military programs due to rising geopolitical tensions. The deal between Firefly and SciTec will help strengthen Firefly’s position in this dynamic field. Earlier this year, Firefly faced significant challenges, including bankruptcy in 2017, a change of CEO, and technical issues with the Alpha rocket. Despite this, the latest acquisition could open new opportunities for the company.
