A group of Ukrainian citizens deported from the USA returned via Poland
50 Ukrainian citizens returned to Ukraine in transit through Poland, having been deported from the United States of America. The return occurred through the “Shehyni” checkpoint with the necessary documentation.
Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, reported that the return took place on November 18. Before the deportation, the USA notified Ukraine of its intentions in accordance with international law standards. Demchenko mentioned that Ukrainian border guards processed the citizens’ entry into the country in compliance with legislative requirements.
The spokesperson also clarified that Ukraine always accepts its citizens and examines the circumstances under which the decision to deport these individuals was made. The US statements regarding the possibility for Ukrainians to stay in the country until the end of the war with Russia, provided by President Trump earlier this year, did not prevent the deportation.
In August, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement had already announced the deportation of Ukrainians by publishing corresponding photographs, but this time Ukraine did not record a mass return of citizens.
