Coursera acquired competitor Udemy for $2.5 billion, focusing on AI and stock recovery.

Coursera and Udemy Announce $2.5 Billion Merger

Coursera and Udemy have officially confirmed plans to merge, valuing the deal at $2.5 billion. According to the agreements, the acquisition will be executed through a stock exchange, with the deal completion expected in the second half of 2026.

The news of the merger between Coursera and Udemy comes as a response to the challenging market conditions currently faced by both platforms. Despite revenue growth in the third quarter of 2025, the decline in stock prices indicates reduced investor confidence in their independence. Both organizations hope that the merger will bolster shareholder confidence and contribute to long-term growth and strengthening of their competitive positions.

Udemy’s CEO, Hugo Sarrazin, emphasized that the merger will accelerate the development of AI-based products. Recently, both platforms have been actively integrating AI tools into their services. For example, Coursera has integrated with OpenAI and established collaboration with Anthropic, while Udemy implemented a “microlearning” format for lesson personalization through AI.
