Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine provoked criticism over the disclosure of a secret map
The Chief of the Assault Units Management of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Valentyn Manko, faced a wave of criticism following the publication of a map of military operations containing secret data. This incident has once again raised the issue of the importance of information security in wartime conditions.
This week, on October 26, Colonel Valentyn Manko uploaded a video on Facebook with operational information about the frontline situation in the Novopavlivsk and Pokrovsk directions. The footage also included the Delta situational awareness system, which is marked “for official use only.” According to the DeepState team, this demonstration has caused concern among the military and volunteers since the data from this system is not intended for public access.
Despite the wave of criticism on social media, Manko assured that the maps used are just simple images from Google Maps that he annotated himself, so, in his opinion, they do not contain confidential information.
This incident once again highlighted the importance of information security in wartime conditions. The loss of such information can have serious consequences for the national security of the country. Cybersecurity specialists and military personnel emphasize the need to adhere to data protection rules and exercise caution when handling sensitive information. Furthermore, experts identify the human factor as one of the main vulnerabilities in the field of cybersecurity, noting that most information leaks occur due to employee errors or incompetence.
In the wake of the map disclosure incident, the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s command faces challenges in ensuring effective information security, which may require additional legislative and technological measures to strengthen data protection.
