Igor Karpenko

Born on 11 April 1980 in Cherkasy. He received his higher education at the Faculty of Journalism of Ivan Franko State University of Lviv, graduating in 2003. While still a student, he was actively involved in the editorial offices of university and local publications, producing his first publications on social and cultural topics. He began his professional career in 2004 as a correspondent for a regional news portal. His early articles focused on socio-political processes in the central regions of Ukraine, local self-government, and government transparency. He later worked as a news editor for a number of national online media outlets, where he wrote about media reforms, the fight against corruption, and the process of European integration. From 2014 to 2020, Igor Karpenko worked as a special correspondent in the frontline regions of eastern Ukraine, preparing reports, interviews and documentary essays about the lives of people in the conflict zone. His publications appeared in Ukrainska Pravda, Dzerkalo Tyzhnia, Hromadske, and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. In 2023, he joined the editorial team of the independent news outlet Golovne, where he is responsible for analytical materials, author columns and thematic special projects. His professional interests include domestic politics, national security, social transformations, media development and the country's information resilience. Karpenko is known for his attention to facts, balanced assessments, and in-depth analytical approach to presenting material. Colleagues note his integrity, professionalism, and ability to see the broader context of events behind the news. He believes that the main mission of a journalist is to serve society through honest, objective, and high-quality reporting. In his free time, he is interested in the history of modern Europe and media philosophy, travels, cycles, and does documentary photography.
