Ukrainian sugar production decreased by 10% compared to last year
The National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine reported that domestic factories produced 880 thousand tons of sugar this year, which is 10% less than the previous season.
According to Ukrtsukor, there are 26 sugar factories in Ukraine that are part of the association. The sugar yield from raw materials this year is 14.81%, exceeding last year’s level of 14.09%. The increase is due to the higher sugar content of beets – 17.39%, which is 0.62% higher than last year’s figures. Vinnytsia region remains the leader in sugar production in the country, with six factories located on its territory already producing 196 thousand tons of sugar.
This reduction in sugar production in Ukraine occurs against the background of price stabilization in the global market. Earlier, in January, sugar prices hit their lowest level in three years due to news about India’s export plans. It is known that against the backdrop of increased production in other countries, the European Union draws attention to Ukrainian sugar along with other agricultural products from Ukraine. The EU highlights the importance of Ukrainian agricultural products, in particular sugar, poultry, and grains, in meeting its internal needs.
| Region | Number of factories | Sugar production (thousand tons) |
|---|---|---|
| Vinnytsia region | 6 | 196 |
| Other regions | 20 | 684 |
| Total in Ukraine | 26 | 880 |
