A national energy-independent internet map will appear in “Diia”.

Ukraine creates a map of energy-independent internet in the “Diia” application

The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine has initiated the collection of data to integrate a map of energy-independent internet based on xPON technology in the “Diia” application. Providers can already add information about their networks, which will become the foundation for the new service.

The xPON technology provides users with constant internet access via optical fiber even during extended power outages. The network can operate for over 72 hours if the router and optical terminal are connected to a power bank or battery. According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, 54% of users from over 1200 providers are already using xPON services. In conditions of frequent blackouts, the demand for this technology is doubling.

The highest xPON coverage is currently observed in Vinnytsia, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Volyn regions. With the launch of the map, users will be able to check if their home is connected to energy-independent internet, choose a provider by address, and learn how long the network will operate without power supply. For providers, this initiative will become a tool to attract new subscribers.

To join the project, providers need to authorize themselves in the personal account on the “Diia” portal, select the “Provider Map” service, and fill out the appropriate form. After the data is verified, providers will receive confirmation of their networks’ registration on the map.

This initiative is part of a larger digitalization process in Ukraine aimed at improving the quality and accessibility of internet services for the population. Experts predict that the new map will help improve user awareness and reduce the negative impact of power outages on internet access.
