Estonia will allocate 3.5 million euros to Ukraine for Starlink systems.

Estonia will allocate 3.5 million euros for supplying Starlink systems to Ukraine through an IT coalition that has united countries to enhance its IT capabilities during the war.

The Estonian Ministry of Defense reported that the funds for purchasing Starlink systems will come from Ukraine’s aid package for 2025. The IT coalition, led by Estonia and Luxembourg, will play a key role in ensuring this process. According to Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur, Ukraine emphasized the need for Starlink to support communication, which is important for tactical advantages on the battlefield. This is especially relevant as Ukraine seeks to significantly expand its drone units.

Pevkur noted that Ukraine is daily defending freedom for all of Europe, including Estonia, and technical support, along with the supply of weapons, is crucial. Starlink plays an important role by providing high-speed internet, which is necessary for drone operations.

In August 2023, Poland also confirmed that its financial contribution to the Starlink project would be maintained, despite the Polish president’s veto of a law on aid to Ukrainian refugees. Later, on September 29th, the president of Poland signed a law extending funding for the subscription fees for Starlink terminals in Ukraine.
