An MEP states that after the “Mindychev tapes” the EU will inevitably increase attention and monitoring.

The EU will strengthen control over anti-corruption efforts in Ukraine

The European Union will enhance monitoring of anti-corruption efforts in Ukraine amidst scandals related to the “Midas” operation. This was stated by Lithuanian MEP Petras Auštrevičius.

The Lithuanian politician and member of the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee stressed that the European Union plans to expand control over anti-corruption measures in Ukraine following recent exposure of corruption schemes. According to him, the EU’s interest lies in ensuring systematic anti-corruption efforts across all sectors, not just in energy or defense.

In the MEP’s opinion, more regulatory bodies should be involved in the protection of both public and private funds within the EU framework. However, he noted that Ukraine should not face strict ultimatums, such as blocking negotiations for EU membership. Numerous agreements and commitments already provide a sufficient basis for pressure.

The corruption scandal that impacted the political situation in Ukraine began after the European Commission expressed concerns about attempts to limit the independence of anti-corruption institutions. This situation has caused significant dissatisfaction among European politicians.

Key Aspects Information
EU Interest Systematic anti-corruption fight across all sectors
