Suspension of border crossing operations in Ukraine due to technical failure
The State Border Service of Ukraine has temporarily stopped the passage of citizens and vehicles at the border due to failures in the customs database. Delays in processing will continue until the technical problems are resolved.
On Saturday, November 8, the State Border Service of Ukraine announced the temporary suspension of border crossing operations. According to official data, at 13:39 failures in the customs database affected the ability of border guards to process the entry and exit of citizens and vehicles. In connection with this, travelers are asked to consider possible delays in their plans.
These events unfold against the backdrop of recent changes in the EU border crossing system, known as the Entry/Exit System (EES), which began operations in late October 2023. This system aims to automate the border control process in the Schengen area, which, despite expectations, has led to increased queues at certain sections of the Ukrainian-Polish border.
Experts note that technical failures can significantly impact the already strained logistics of border crossings. The implementation of the new EES system appears to be an important step towards modernizing control processes, but it has also revealed weaknesses in the technical preparedness for such innovations.
