OpenAI reached a valuation of $500 billion after selling shares to SoftBank and other investors.

OpenAI Achieves $500 Billion Market Valuation Following Stock Sale Agreement

OpenAI has increased its market valuation to $500 billion following a stock sale worth approximately $6.6 billion. This represents a significant leap from its previous valuation of $300 billion.

According to Reuters, the stock sale brought together a consortium of investors, including Thrive Capital, SoftBank, Dragoneer Investment Group, MGX from Abu Dhabi, and T. Rowe Price. For SoftBank, this deal signifies a continuation of their active involvement in the company’s development, which previously included $40 billion in financing. The stock sale agreement was made possible amid heightened interest in artificial intelligence technologies, where major players compete for top talent.

OpenAI impressed the market not only with its valuation but also with its financial metrics—earning $4.3 billion in the first half of 2025, which is 16% more than its earnings for the entire year of 2024, according to The Information. Artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly important element of many corporations’ strategies. For example, Meta is actively investing in the company Scale AI and has even invited its co-founder, Alexandr Wang, to lead a new “superintelligence” division.

Experts believe that the growing interest in artificial intelligence technologies requires major market players to make active investments. This might create new opportunities for innovation, but it will also pose new challenges for companies in terms of ethics and regulation.
