Perplexity has released a free browser called Comet to compete with leading AI companies.

Perplexity AI Announces Free Launch of AI-Powered Comet Browser

Perplexity AI has launched global access to its AI-driven browser, Comet. From now on, all users can access the capabilities of this new product for free, acting as a personal assistant for various tasks.

Initially introduced in July for paying Perplexity Max subscribers, the Comet browser saw high demand, prompting the company to make it free. The software allows users to search for information on the internet, manage tabs, write emails, assist with online shopping, and more. This move is important for Perplexity as it competes in the market with such players as Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic, which have already integrated their own AI solutions for browsing into their platforms.

The free launch of Comet could significantly increase competitive pressure in the market as users seek increasingly powerful tools for daily tasks. Experts anticipate that these changes could shift the balance of power among leading tech players, encouraging them to rapidly develop new AI-based solutions.

Previously, Perplexity faced accusations of using content without proper attribution, prompting the company to reconsider its approach to media relations. In August, the company introduced Comet Plus, a service that provides access to materials from partner publications including CNN, Condé Nast, and other leading media outlets. This allows users to access verified information alongside automated search and personalized recommendations.

Company Service Month of Integration
