Ukraine’s foreign trade in 2026: imports doubled exports

In the first seven months of 2026, Ukraine imported twice as much as it exported

Ukraine’s imports for the first seven months of 2026 amounted to 58.1 billion dollars, almost double the exports, which totaled 24.1 billion dollars. China remained the largest supplier.

According to the State Customs Service, Ukraine’s total foreign trade turnover from January to July this year reached 82.2 billion dollars. Imports account for 58.1 billion dollars, while exports cover 24.1 billion dollars, highlighting a significant imbalance in trade directions.

The volume of taxable imports was 40.9 billion dollars. The largest suppliers were China (16.8 billion dollars), Poland (5.5 billion dollars), and Germany (3.8 billion dollars). Poland also remains the largest buyer of Ukrainian goods, with a volume of 2.8 billion dollars, while Turkey and Germany are the second and third largest markets, respectively.

The basis of imports consists of machinery, equipment, and transport (25.7 billion dollars). They are followed by fuel and energy goods (8.5 billion dollars) and chemical products (8 billion dollars). These categories made up 73% of all imports, bringing the most customs revenue, particularly fuel, which accounted for 34% of customs duties.

Exports are mainly structured with food products (14.1 billion dollars), representing more than half of all exports. Metals and metal products, as well as machinery and equipment, contributed 2.5 billion and 2.1 billion dollars, respectively. This underscores the critical role of the agricultural sector in Ukraine’s economy, even in tough times.

For the specified period, 888.3 million hryvnias were received into the budget from export duties. The State Customs Service noted that a record amount of customs payments was collected in July — 78.3 billion hryvnias, the highest figure since the start of the full-scale war.

Country Import, billion dollars Export, billion dollars

Germany 3.8 1.5
