Wix lays off 20% of its employees, including those in the Ukrainian office: AIN obtained details from the laid-off employees

Wix is laying off 20% of employees, including Ukrainian specialists.

Israeli technology company Wix announced plans to reduce up to 20% of its global workforce, which could affect up to a thousand employees. Ukrainian specialists in the Kyiv, Dnipro, and Lviv offices will also be subject to layoffs.

This week, it became known that many Ukrainian employees announced their dismissal from the company on social media, calling it the largest cutback in its history. According to one of the former employees, the main goal of the layoffs is cost optimization, not professional results. Some teams were completely disbanded. Layoffs particularly affected workers in European offices, where salaries and the cost of living are higher.

Under the terms of employment, employees may receive severance pay, which varies depending on tenure and contract conditions, including monetary compensation for unused vacations and earnings for a certain number of work weeks. For instance, employees with ten years of service may receive payments for almost five months.

Affected employees noted that internal communication before the layoff was unclear, and the decision to cut back was difficult, given that some professional roles are being eliminated globally, as reported on social media.

According to the Times of Israel, the layoffs occurred due to losses recorded in the first quarter of 2026. Additionally, Wix is actively investing in AI-based tools, which is putting pressure on certain jobs.

Wix, founded in 2006, has a market capitalization of approximately $2.2 billion and continues to expand its capabilities in generative AI and video content. The company acquired Israeli startups Base44 and Hour One to fulfill these ambitions. It is worth noting that in 2024, Wix stopped serving Russian users.
