Google integrates artificial intelligence into search by updating features and interface
Google announced significant updates to its popular search engine during the Google I/O 2026 conference. Among the innovations are the integration of AI agents, a generative interface, and personalized services based on the Gemini 3.5 Flash model.
According to Google representatives, this is the biggest update to the search bar in more than 25 years. The search will now support not only text but also visual queries and will be able to interact with files and tabs in the Chrome browser. Additionally, the bar will become more “conversational,” allowing users to make more complex and longer queries with AI suggestions support.
The company is introducing so-called information agents in its system. These AI agents will operate in the background. These agents can gather the necessary information for the user, such as tracking new housing rental announcements or notifying about the release of new products. The feature will be available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the summer of 2026.
Another innovation is the generative interface that can create interactive elements and simulations in real time according to the user’s request. This will turn the search into a dynamic tool that adapts to the topic or task. The feature will be available to all users this summer.
Additionally, the search engine will now offer the ability to create personalized mini-apps for specific tasks, such as a fitness tracker or a wedding planning tool. This will allow for the automatic generation of small services based on the user’s text description.
