Norway provides $300 million to Ukraine for weapons procurement under the PURL program.

Norway allocated $300 million to Ukraine for military aid

Norway announced the provision of $300 million to Ukraine through the PURL mechanism to support its defense needs. This funding will be directed towards the purchase of air defense systems, drones, and artillery ammunition.

Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre stated that the new contribution will facilitate the rapid provision of necessary military equipment to Ukraine. Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide emphasized that the support is provided based on the needs identified by Ukraine in coordination with the EU and allies.

The Norwegian Parliament previously approved the extension of military assistance to Ukraine until 2026, with a total volume amounting to 70 billion kroner. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky noted that the total aid under the PURL program exceeded $1.2 billion.

The PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) mechanism was created to facilitate a rapid response to the urgent needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including items that are scarce or not produced in Europe. Regular contributions ensure a steady flow of necessary assistance to Ukraine.

Let us recall that at the end of April, Ukraine and Norway announced a plan for joint drone production, which will be handed over to the Ukrainian military. It is expected that the first systems will be ready by the summer. The production is financed with additional funds allocated by Norway, over and above the $7 billion defense support agreed upon until 2026.

Country Amount of Aid Program Completion Year
Norway $300 million PURL 2026
Canada $200 million PURL N/A
