Germany is no longer the key force in NATO: the center of gravity of the Alliance is shifting eastward.

Due to geopolitical changes in Europe, there is growing attention to the role of Scandinavia and the Baltic in the structure of NATO. Experts are urging Washington to rethink traditional approaches to strategic planning in the region.

The proposal to update NATO strategies, expressed by Elbridge Colby on social networks, has once again drawn attention to the issue of force deployment in the North Atlantic Alliance. Experts emphasize that the focus on Germany’s traditional role in NATO needs to be reassessed in the context of increasing threats from Russia and the changing security situation in Europe.

The new geopolitical realities require NATO to expand its focus on northern and Baltic countries, which are demonstrating a growing role in ensuring European security. Shifting the emphasis to this region could enhance the alliance’s readiness to respond quickly to challenges. Analysts note that such steps could strengthen NATO’s internal unity and facilitate the implementation of innovative defense approaches.
