Russia is likely sending a signal to the US about recognizing Crimea, understanding that Ukraine will not agree – Zelenskyy

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Kyiv will not agree to decisions that contradict the Constitution, including the issue of Crimea’s status. This was a response to possible negotiations between Moscow and Washington about recognizing the peninsula as Russian.

Zelensky noted that Russia may be signaling the US regarding the recognition of Crimea, although he is convinced that this will not happen. “Even states that do not always support Ukraine recognize its territorial integrity, fearing similar risks for their territories,” he said.

The President stressed that any international agreements concerning Ukraine must respect its constitutional order. Kyiv will not support agreements that contradict Ukrainian legislation. At the same time, Zelensky acknowledges that certain aspects of Moscow and Washington’s relations do not directly concern Kyiv, but he stipulated that if they touch upon national interests, the country is interested in staying informed.

On February 5, Zelensky categorically opposed recognizing Russian temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories. Additionally, he reported that Russia offered the US an economic deal totaling $12 trillion. According to Zelensky, America wants to end the war by the summer of this year, offering a new round of negotiations in Miami.
