Boston Dynamics and Google DeepMind collaborate to create humanoid robots
Boston Dynamics and Google DeepMind have entered into a partnership to integrate artificial intelligence into the next generation of humanoid robots Atlas.
This collaboration aims to equip Atlas robots with “fundamental intelligence,” enabling them to perform a wide range of industrial tasks. The first sector where the updated robots will be applied is the automotive industry. Research for this project will commence this year, focusing on combining Boston Dynamics’ physical robot capabilities with Google DeepMind’s Gemini Robotics AI models.
The Gemini Robotics models on which the project is based are multifunctional and allow robots to perceive and interact with their surroundings. They enable robots to think, use tools, and establish connections with humans. According to Boston Dynamics’ Director of Robot Behavior Alberto Rodriguez, the goal is to create “the most capable humanoid in the world.” Google DeepMind sees the objective as expanding the impact of robotics and effectively scaling it.
The collaboration between Boston Dynamics and Google DeepMind can be considered a productive step for the advancement of robotics, with the potential to transform the industrial automation industry.
