A powerful earthquake occurred at the border of the USA and Canada.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7 occurred on the border of Alaska and Canada.

A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7 took place on December 6 at the border between the state of Alaska and Canada, triggering a series of aftershocks.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at 11:41 local time at a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was near the city of Yakutat, which served as a reference point for identifying the seismic event. Shortly after the main tremor, several additional aftershocks of lesser magnitude — ranging from 5.1 to 3.8 — were recorded.

Earthquakes in this region are not uncommon; however, a magnitude of 7 is considered quite high and can lead to significant consequences, including infrastructure destruction and threats to human life. Let us recall that at the end of October, a strong earthquake struck western Turkey, resulting in destroyed buildings and noticeable effects even in Istanbul.

Experts emphasize the need for enhanced preparedness for such events, particularly in vulnerable areas. The current activity serves as a reminder that the region is in a zone of increased seismic activity, which requires constant monitoring and efforts to prevent critical consequences.
