Oil supply to Hungary via “Druzhba” remains secure, Orban stated
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban assured that Hungary continues to receive Russian oil despite the explosion on the “Druzhba” pipeline.
On his Facebook page, Orban reported that after speaking with the head of Hungary’s largest oil and gas company MOL, he was convinced of the uninterrupted oil supply. The Hungarian official emphasized that despite the Ukrainian attack, the “Druzhba” pipeline continues to operate steadily towards Hungary.
The explosion on the “Druzhba” pipeline occurred on the night of December 3 on a section in Russia. Nevertheless, oil supplies to European countries are not halted. This issue draws particular attention amid U.S. sanctions imposed on energy resources from Russia. Earlier, at the beginning of November, Orban visited Washington intending to discuss the possibility of obtaining a sanctions exemption for Hungary. Hungary seeks further ensuring its energy needs through the supply of Russian oil.
Despite the challenges, Hungarian-Russian energy relations remain stable. Experts note that the situation with the “Druzhba” pipeline once again confirms the dependence of some European countries on Russian oil. This raises questions about Europe’s strategic energy security and the need to diversify its supply sources.
