Florida has not changed its position on Russia’s demands to surrender the Ukrainian Donbas – ABC News.

The talks in Florida did not lead to progress regarding a peaceful settlement between Russia and Ukraine. Representatives from both sides confirmed their unwavering stance: Moscow is not ready for a truce, and Kyiv will not concede its territories.

The talks held on November 30th in Florida did not bring any breakthroughs on the issue of ceding non-occupied Ukrainian Donbas territory to the aggressor country, Russia, according to ABC News citing informed sources. During the meeting, security guarantees for Ukraine, the fate of frozen Russian assets, and the possibility of holding elections in Ukraine were also discussed.

The issue of assets was central to the Russian side. Sources from Axios emphasized the US’s desire to bridge differences on territorial and security issues. At the same time, discussions also touched upon the timeline of holding elections in Ukraine and the possible exchange of territories between Russia and Ukraine.

The day after the meeting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the territorial issue remained the most challenging, taking six and a half hours of discussion. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio concluded that much work remains on the peace plan but overall assessed the meeting positively. Head of the Ukrainian delegation Rustem Umerov noted that Washington shares Kyiv’s key goals.

Zelensky and European partners discussed the talks’ outcomes with Umerov and Donald Trump’s special envoy Witkoff on December 1st, who is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin the following day.
