The import of diesel fuel into Ukraine in October experienced significant changes in the geography of supplies. Due to the increase in volumes from Poland and Greece, their share amounted to 80% of the total imports, while supplies from other countries significantly decreased.
According to the Consulting Group “A-95”, supplies of diesel fuel from Poland increased by 26% to a record 254 thousand tons in October. Meanwhile, volumes from Lithuania, Romania, and Hungary significantly decreased: supplies from Lithuania fell by 60% to 25 thousand tons due to repair work at the Mažeikiai oil refinery. Supplies from Hungary decreased from 52 to 20 thousand tons due to problems with the “Druzhba” pipeline, which started after drone attacks in August. Supplies from Romania fell from 159 to 26 thousand tons.
In October, Greece became the second-largest source of fuel supply, sending 191 thousand tons, which is 41% more than in September. This increase was made possible by Ukrainian sanctions against the fuel terminal in Romanian Constanța. However, the sanctions did not contribute to an increase in supplies from Turkey, which decreased by 6% to 48 thousand tons of STAR product.
Analysts note that changes in fuel imports may have a long-term impact on the market and be an indicator of the stability and reliability of different transport routes. It is important to monitor geopolitical events that may affect the region’s energy security.
