The Cabinet of Ministers appointed Orest Mandziy as the new head of the State Customs Service. This decision was made to continue the reform of customs and ensure the financial sustainability of the state.
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced that the appointment of Orest Mandziy was made upon the recommendation of Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko, who participated in an open competition. It is expected that the new leader will strengthen the implementation of reforms in the customs service, particularly in the modernization of its operations and the increase in process transparency. According to Svyrydenko, Mandziy is also expected to strengthen the institutional capacity of the customs service.
Orest Mandziy has experience working in law enforcement agencies, particularly in the NABU, where he led one of the divisions. Before this, he held various positions in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The appointment of the new leader takes place against the backdrop of recent scandals involving corruption in customs, including the seizure of significant sums of money at the Lutsk customs post.
This personnel decision aims to strengthen control and fight corruption within the system. The effectiveness of Orest Mandziy in the new position will be evaluated based on successes in reforming the service, as well as reducing shadow schemes which, according to experts, cause significant damage to the state budget.
