Drone attack on Budyonnovsk: fire at the “Stavrolen” plant
On November 12, in Budyonnovsk, Stavropol Krai, Russia, explosions occurred caused by a drone attack, leading to a fire at the “Stavrolen” plant.
On the night of November 12, the city of Budyonnovsk in Stavropol Krai, Russia, was attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). According to the governor of the region, Vladimir Vladimirov, air defense forces managed to repel the attack of “unknown drones,” but debris from the downed vehicles caused a fire in the industrial zone. A series of explosions were recorded, after which an air raid alert was declared in the city.
Local residents received a warning to stay in safe rooms, avoid windows and walls, and prepare for possible disruptions to mobile internet and digital television. Witnesses reported a fire at the “Stavrolen” plant, an important gas processing enterprise owned by the “Lukoil” corporation and the main employer in the city. The plant processes approximately 2 billion m³ of gas per year, and its expansion is planned.
The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that four drones were shot down in Stavropol Krai that night, and a total of 22 attacking devices were counted across the country over the last night. This is not the first attack on the enterprise — a similar incident occurred on October 28.
The context of the incident lies in the increasing frequency of drone attacks on critical objects on Russian territory, which may indicate new security challenges and the need to improve defense systems.
