Google enabled AirDrop support for Pixel 10 users
Google announced a new feature that allows Pixel 10 smartphone users to send and receive files from Apple device owners using AirDrop technology through the Google Quick Share service.
This innovation, implemented without Apple’s involvement, gives Android users a long-awaited opportunity to interact with the Apple ecosystem. As explained by Google spokesperson Alex Moriconi, the integration became possible thanks to the company’s own developments. Currently, the feature is limited to Pixel 10 series devices, but Google plans to further extend it to other models. For successful data exchange, iPhone, iPad, or macOS users need to activate the discoverable mode for everyone with an automatic 10-minute limit.
The file transfer process looks familiar to both Apple users and Pixel 10 owners. After activating the mode on the Pixel 10 device, the user can see the Apple device in Quick Share and initiate the transfer. A standard AirDrop request will appear on the Apple device, which needs to be approved to receive the files. Reverse transfer from Apple to Pixel 10 is also possible when the Pixel 10 device is in discoverable or receiving mode.
This feature introduces a new level of comfort and efficiency in interaction between platforms, which was previously unreasonably complex for Android users. Google assures that the transfer process occurs securely and directly between devices, without routing through third-party servers.
For Android users, this news is significant as the integration with iPhone effectively removes one of Apple’s main advantages, allowing convenient and secure file sharing.
