On the night of December 23, in the Stavropol Krai of Russia, a drone attack took place, reportedly hitting the “Stavrolen” petrochemical plant. This enterprise had already been targeted in November.
The Governor of Stavropol Krai, Vladimir Vladimirov, reported a fire in the industrial area but noted that there were no casualties and that residential buildings and infrastructure in the city of Budyonnovsk were undamaged. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that over the night, 29 unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down or intercepted over Russian territory, of which seven were in Stavropol Krai.
The Russian resource ASTRA, based on OSINT analysis, confirmed that in footage taken from Mendeleev Avenue, 3 km from the fire, it is visible that the attack was directed at the “Stavrolen” enterprise, located at Roza Luxemburg Street, 1. This enterprise holds an important place in Russia’s petrochemical industry, is part of the “Lukoil” group, and specializes in the production of polyethylene and polypropylene.
According to the General Staff of Ukraine, the “Stavrolen” plant conducts the full cycle of hydrocarbon raw material processing and produces polymers used for the production of composite materials, housing parts, seals, and insulation for Russian military equipment. Among other things, the plant produces components for unmanned aerial vehicles.
This attack on the “Stavrolen” plant is part of a series of strikes that Russia has experienced recently. On December 22, the Main Intelligence Directorate reported damage to aircraft in Lipetsk amounting to $100 million, as well as a drone attack on the “Tamanneftegaz” maritime oil terminal in the Krasnodar Krai.
