Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities: children injured in Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, and Kharkiv
During the night of October 22, Russian shelling caused significant damage to several Ukrainian cities, injuring children in Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, and Kharkiv, as well as destroying civil and critical infrastructure.
The authorities of Zaporizhzhia reported 15 injured, including three children: a seven-month-old boy was hospitalized, and a six-month-old baby and a 13-year-old teenager remain under medical supervision. In Kyiv, 29 people were injured, five of them children. In the capital, a drone fragment hit the house of the Ukrainian ambassador to the USA, Olga Stefanishina, but fortunately, no one was injured.
In Kharkiv, nine people were injured after drone attacks. Three drones hit a kindergarten, causing a fire over an area of 500 square meters, as well as a shop, cafe, office premises, and six cars. The incident claimed the life of a utility worker, but there were no injured children.
Russian attacks also damaged energy facilities and Ukrainian Railways infrastructure, complicating train movements. Ukraine was again subjected to massive shelling, during which Russia used 28 missiles and over 400 drones.
Military experts believe that targeted attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure could exacerbate the humanitarian crisis during the winter period, creating a significant threat to the civilian population. Such actions by Russia raise concerns in the international community and could provoke new sanctions.
