Boeing plans to triple delivery volumes for Patriot systems amid growing demand
Boeing announced its intention to triple the delivery volumes of guidance heads for Patriot missiles due to significant demand for these defense systems. This was reported by Steve Parker, head of Boeing Defense, Space and Security, during the Dubai Airshow.
To realize this ambitious plan, Boeing has already built a new production facility covering 3716 square meters. The demand for air and missile defense systems, particularly Patriot systems, has significantly increased due to geopolitical threats, including Russian aggression and the conflict in Ukraine. European countries are especially interested in strengthening their defense capabilities.
The company has previously signed contracts to produce over 3000 of these components for the PAC-3 system by 2030. By the end of 2025, Boeing plans to deliver a record 650-700 units. Guidance heads perform a key function in PAC-3 interceptors, capable of detecting and destroying threats, including hypersonic missiles and ballistic objects.
The company’s operational challenges are related to a recent workers’ strike in St. Louis, Missouri. Parker noted that the company is taking a measured approach to resuming work after the strike. It was also announced in Dubai about the upgrade of the KC-46 tanker aircraft’s remote inspection system to version 2.0, which has already passed flight tests.
| Year | Number of guidance heads (thousands) |
|---|---|
| 2023 | 650-700 |
| 2030 | Over 3000 |
