Explosion of a grenade in Sambir district: driver injured himself during detention
On Sunday, November 16, in the Lviv region, a man detonated a grenade after being stopped by patrol officers in the town of Rudky. The victim sustained injuries and was hospitalized.
According to the regional police, the incident occurred around 18:00. Law enforcement officers stopped an Alfa Romeo car due to traffic violations. The driver, a 37-year-old resident of a village in the Sambir district, during communication with the police, pulled out a grenade and activated it near the car. As a result of the explosion, he was injured and taken to the hospital.
The National Police opened a criminal case under articles on illegal handling of explosives and attempted life of a law enforcement officer. These violations are punishable by 9 to 15 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment. A pre-trial investigation is currently underway.
The context of the incident indicates an increase in cases related to the use of explosive devices in the country. A similar case occurred in September in Kyiv, when a grenade detonated in an apartment of a multi-story building, resulting in the death of two people. Experts emphasize the importance of strengthening security measures and controlling the circulation of weapons and ammunition.
