Ukraine discussed the possibilities of importing gas from Greece and is considering new supply routes through Poland and Azerbaijan to meet its needs amid reduced domestic production.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky informed that Ukraine has prepared several strategic directions for gas supply, including agreements with Greece. These measures are aimed at maximizing the stability of gas supply during the winter. The Ukrainian government has already allocated funds for the financing of imports, carried out with the help of international partners, including European banks under the guarantees of the European Commission.
The planned gas imports are expected to cover a financing need of 2 billion euros. Norway and the United States also support Ukraine in this matter. Special attention is given to contractual relations with Poland and Azerbaijan, where long-term contracts are anticipated.
Earlier, the Prime Minister of Ukraine stated that approximately 2 billion euros are needed to ensure gas supply for the winter period. On October 30, it became known that Ukraine is resuming gas imports through the Trans-Balkan corridor after a two-month break. According to the latest data, on November 13, Naftogaz received 127 million euros from the European Investment Bank to ensure stable supplies for the heating season.
