Zelenskyy commented on the “Midas” operation by NABU and SAP for the first time.

Zelensky called for the inevitability of punishment for corruption in the energy sector

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky advocated for the inevitability of punishment for all those involved in corruption schemes, particularly in the energy sector. The statement was made against the backdrop of Operation “Midas,” conducted by anti-corruption agencies.

Zelensky emphasized the importance of the inevitability of punishment for all those involved in corruption schemes in various sectors, particularly energy. He stressed the need for officials to cooperate with the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and other law enforcement agencies to achieve effective anti-corruption actions. The President also noted that “Energoatom,” responsible for a significant part of energy generation in Ukraine, should remain a transparent and important structure.

Operation “Midas,” which includes searches, particularly of businessman Timur Mindich close to the president, has caused a significant stir. NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office reported on the operation’s duration of 15 months, during which about 1000 hours of audio recordings were listened to. The investigation revealed the existence of a “high-level criminal organization” that caused damage to the public sector, particularly “Energoatom,” amounting to $100 million. Due to the scandal, the Verkhovna Rada initiated the resignation of two ministers.

Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk stated that all culprits should be brought to justice, and “Energoatom” fully supports the investigation.
