President Zelensky changed the date of celebrating the Day of Air Assault Forces of Ukraine
Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree changing the date of celebrating the Day of Air Assault Forces of Ukraine to November 8, cancelling the previous date of November 21.
According to the new decree, the decision was made to honor the courage and heroism of Air Assault Forces soldiers demonstrated in the struggle for freedom, independence, and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The decree also emphasizes the importance of developing military traditions. The document officially comes into effect from the date of its publication.
The Air Assault Forces command explained that the choice of November 8 coincides with the feast of all God’s angels, including Archangel Michael, as the patron of the military. Previously, in May 2023, the Synod of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine approved the transition to the New Julian calendar, resulting in changes to the dates of many holidays, including the Day of Defenders and Defenders of Ukraine, now celebrated on October 1 instead of October 14.
| Event | Old date | New date |
|---|---|---|
| Day of Air Assault Forces | November 21 | November 8 |
