Samsung introduced a smartphone that folds three times at the K-Tech Showcase exhibition
At the K-Tech Showcase exhibition, as part of the APEC CEO Summit, Samsung Electronics introduced a prototype of the Tri-Fold Phone smartphone, which folds three times. The novelty has an unfolded screen with a diagonal of 10 inches.
The Tri-Fold Phone, which can be considered the next stage in foldable phone technology, has two hinges for folding. The device, when unfolded, transforms into a small tablet with a wide screen. The external display in folded mode has a diagonal of about 6.5 inches, reminiscent of the current Galaxy Fold series. The expected price of the novelty exceeds 3 million Korean won, or more than $2200, due to the complex hinge design and high-quality materials.
The initial production volume of the Tri-Fold Phone will be limited to 100,000 units, and the release is planned for markets with high interest in foldable phones, such as South Korea and China. Exhibition visitors could view the device only through glass, which limited the opportunity for a detailed acquaintance with the novelty.
According to experts, the goal of this launch is not so much mass sales as it is in demonstrating Samsung’s technological achievements. Previous competitors, like Huawei, have already introduced tri-fold models, indicating active competition in this market segment. Apple also plans to enter the foldable smartphone market in 2026, which will be a new stage in the development of this technology. Such developments may stimulate innovation and affect prices in the premium segment.
