Due to the drone strike in Kramatorsk, journalists of the FREEDOM channel died
Alena Gubanova and Yevhen Karmazin, journalists of the FREEDOM channel, died in Kramatorsk following an attack by an enemy “Lancet” drone. Their vehicle was hit by drones while at a gas station.
The tragedy was reported by the head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, Vadym Filashkin. He described how Gubanova and Karmazin had been covering events in Donetsk since the first days of the full-scale invasion, working in the hottest spots. As a result of the attack, another journalist, special correspondent Oleksandr Kolichev, was injured and hospitalized.
Gubanova was from Yenakiieve, occupied in 2014, trained as a financier, but with the onset of Russian aggression, she decided to become a journalist. She was 43 years old. Yevhen Karmazin, a native of Kramatorsk, had been working as a cameraman since 2022. He was 33 years old.
Filashkin noted that this is a heavy loss for everyone: “Olena and Yevhen will remain a bright memory for us. They were always the first on the scene—dedicated and just.” The FREEDOM media platform confirmed the death of their journalists.
This is not the first case of journalists dying in the war. In October, a Russian shelling led to the death of a French journalist and injuries to a Ukrainian colleague, who were in protective gear marked PRESS.
