In the Lviv region, a deputy commander of a military unit was arrested for abuse of power
The State Bureau of Investigation has charged the deputy commander of a military unit in Lviv region with suspicion of illegally using subordinates for private work.
Investigators established that the deputy commander used military personnel for laying paving stones by request of an acquaintance entrepreneur. Specifically, from March to September 2025, the military personnel carried out work at facilities in the Lviv region under contracts concluded between the entrepreneur and local communities.
Moreover, during his own vacation, he engaged three subordinates to repair his house in the Vinnytsia region and to install monuments on his parents’ graves. At the same time, the military personnel continued to receive salaries at their place of service.
In addition, according to the investigation, he obstructed the execution of an order to send one of the servicemen to the combat zone and also incited him to unauthorized absence from the unit.
The deputy commander is accused of abuse of power, which is punishable by up to five years in prison. The man has been taken into custody with an option for bail set at 1 million UAH. He has also been suspended from his position.
Similar incidents have occurred previously in Ukraine: in September of this year, a commander in Rivne was detained for forcing subordinates to build him a house; in October, the SBI exposed an officer who sent soldiers to work at private shawarma stands in the Pokrovsky district.
