The IMF Confirms Ukraine’s GDP Growth Forecast for 2025-2026
The International Monetary Fund has confirmed its forecast for the growth of Ukraine’s real GDP, expected to be at 2.0% in 2025 and 4.5% in 2026. This aligns with previous estimates released in April this year.
The IMF published an updated “World Economic Outlook” (WEO), which maintains the growth projections for Ukraine’s economy. Despite the confirmation of these figures, the Fund has lowered Ukraine’s GDP growth for 2024 to 2.9% from the previous 3.5%. Inflation is projected to remain at 12.6% in 2024 and slightly decrease to 7.6% in 2025.
Current account balance figures have also been revised. The deficit is expected to be 16.5% in 2024 and 12.6% in 2025, marking a deterioration compared to the April forecasts. Ukraine’s unemployment rate is expected to remain stable in the long term: it is anticipated to be 11.6% in 2024 and 10.2% in 2026.
According to the IMF, the global economy also faces a slowdown from 3.3% in 2024 to 3.1% in 2026. This highlights a general trend of slowing economic growth worldwide due to a number of global challenges, including inflation and geopolitical tensions.
