Ukrainian farmers have harvested 50% of early grain crops.

Ukraine gathers high grain yields despite a decrease in production volumes

An active harvesting campaign of early grains and leguminous crops is ongoing in the Ukrainian agricultural sector. As of August 11, farmers have harvested 26.13 million tons of grain, covering 49% of the projected areas. The highest yields were recorded in the Khmelnytsky, Ternopil, and Vinnytsia regions.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, from an area of 5.63 million hectares, 19.74 million tons of wheat were gathered with an average yield of 48.5 quintals per hectare. Barley and peas were harvested with yields of 5.68 million tons and 712.3 thousand tons, respectively, with yields of 44.1 and 25.7 quintals per hectare.

Among the regions, Odesa, Kirovohrad, and Mykolaiv are leaders in terms of harvest volumes. In the Odesa region, 4.06 million tons of grain have been gathered, in the Kirovohrad region – 2.33 million, and in Mykolaiv – 2.33 million. At the same time, rapeseed harvesting is underway, with 3.22 million tons of seeds already harvested with an average yield of 27.1 quintals per hectare.

The agricultural sector of Ukraine experienced a 1.6% decrease in production volumes in the first half of 2026, with crop production being the most affected. Despite this, this period shows stability in carrying out the main part of the harvesting campaign.

However, challenges persist. Due to the military actions of Russian aggression, losses in the agricultural sector are estimated to be 3 billion dollars. These challenges require adaptation and new management strategies in the sector.

Region Yield (quintals/ha) Harvested (tons) Area (thous. ha)
Khmelnytsky 69.6
Ternopil 61.9
Vinnytsia 59.7
Odesa 4,058,200 960.5
Kirovohrad 2,329,400 536.5
Mykolaiv 2,326,100 653.8
