Russian oil producers have approached India with a request to increase gasoline supplies.

Russia turned to India for gasoline supplies after strikes on refineries.

Russian energy companies are asking India to increase gasoline supplies due to up to 40% of the country’s refining capacity being temporarily unavailable after attacks on their infrastructure.

Russian energy companies such as “Rosneft,” “Gazprom Neft,” and “Lukoil” reached out to Indian partners with a request to increase gasoline supplies. This happened after Ukrainian strikes put a significant part of Russia’s refining capacity out of service. Informed sources cited by Reuters note that at least one tanker with Indian gasoline has already set sail for Russia.

Indian state-owned refineries told the agency that they currently do not have surplus gasoline volumes for export. It is expected that supplies might be made through traders and ship-to-ship transfers. It was previously reported that traders sold gasoline to Russia from the Indian producer Nayara Energy, partially controlled by “Rosneft.” However, the company denied direct sales to Russian entities, emphasizing the supply of the domestic market.

If Ukrainian strikes continue, Russia may start looking for additional diesel supplies. However, for now, its stock of this is sufficient in Russia.

Since early July, attacks on Russian refineries have become more frequent. Sources report daily incidents at refineries, oil depots, and pumping stations, significantly affecting fuel production and export.
