HENSOLDT from Germany and the Ukrainian company Fire Point will jointly produce FREYJA missile defense systems.

German HENSOLDT and Ukrainian Fire Point have agreed on joint development of air defense systems.

The German defense company HENSOLDT and Ukrainian Fire Point have signed a memorandum of strategic cooperation in the field of air and missile defense. The new complex, code-named FREYJA, is intended to be an affordable alternative to Western solutions such as the Patriot system.

According to a statement from HENSOLDT, the agreement was signed by CEO Oliver Döhr and Fire Point CEO Iryna Terekh. The German company will be responsible for providing and integrating the modern TRML-4D radars, which have already proven their effectiveness during the conflict in Ukraine. The radar can simultaneously track up to 1,500 aerial targets thanks to AESA technology. Ukrainian Fire Point will be the main contractor, implementing the architecture of the complex, integrating components, and supplying FP-7 missiles and launchers.

The FREYJA complex, as already known, will be fully integrated with other air defense systems according to the NATO Link-16 standard. The launch is scheduled for 2027. FREYJA aims to reduce defense system costs while maintaining high effectiveness, an important aspect for both Ukraine and its European partners.

For Fire Point, this agreement could serve as an important step in developing missile technologies that could compete with existing Western solutions. According to the company, Fire Point already produces modern missiles such as FP-5, which demonstrate long-range capabilities and a high monthly production rate. Stillerman emphasized that the company can ramp up production according to needs.
