Ukrainian startup Prox joined Y Combinator to develop AI agents
In 2025, the startup Prox, founded by Ukrainians Dmytro Yanovskyi and Hryhorii Makodzeba, joined the renowned American accelerator Y Combinator. The company develops artificial agents for automating customer support in complex technical industries in the USA.
The founders of Prox initially created their company in the e-commerce segment but then faced scaling issues and moved to the automation of technical support for enterprises producing complex equipment, such as air conditioners or auto parts. The new approach allows handling complex customer requests that cannot be covered by standard AI technologies.
Currently, Prox has received investments from numerous partners, including Bloomberg Beta and Burst VC, and plans to grow from the current $120,000 annual revenue tenfold over the next few months. The company is shifting to efficiency thanks to new approaches to hiring, attracting specialists capable of working with advanced technologies like Claude 4.5.
The path to Y Combinator was atypical: the startup initially received support through the Summer Fellowship program, and later attracted $500,000 from the accelerator. This decision was made possible by cooperation with Emergent Ventures, a program that supports innovative projects.
Yanovskyi also highlighted the importance of the American market for a rapid start and achieving niche capture, emphasizing the need for a clear demonstration of the company’s actual performance metrics.
Artificial intelligence has changed the role of the traditional programmer, turning coders into instruction managers. At the same time, there are limitations of the current AI, necessitating thorough verification of processes and consequences of its work.
