Canada allocates an additional $200 million for the purchase of weapons for Ukraine under the PURL program.

Canada allocates an additional 200 million dollars to the PURL program for Ukraine, as announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This became known after his conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the European Political Community summit in Yerevan.

After the additional funding, the total support from Canada will exceed 830 million dollars. The European Political Community summit, taking place on May 4 in Yerevan, brought together leaders of European countries and representatives of international organizations. Zelensky held talks with several prominent politicians such as Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, Giorgia Meloni, and others.

The PURL program, or Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List, was created to quickly respond to the urgent needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, especially for scarce resources not produced in Europe. Regular contributions from allies, including Canada, help maintain a steady flow of necessary aid for Ukraine’s defense.

The Ukraine Defense Contact Group, known as “Ramstein,” has united over 50 countries in four years, providing over 150 billion dollars in military aid. Support for Ukraine from international partners is crucial for ensuring the country’s security and resilience in the current conditions of aggression.
